where does this go?
Garbage disposal here in Germany is highly systematized.Types of garbage must be segregated and must be correctly sorted and put into the appropriate container otherwise, your garbage may not be collected.

L-R: ‘Gelbe Tonne’ or Yellow Waste Bin: any packaging bearing a so called ‘green dot or green point’ would go into this bin. This includes plastic containers, empty milk cartons etc.‘Blaue Tonne’ or Blue Waste Bin:are for papers (newspapers, small cartons, etc.)‘Braune Tonne’ or Brown Waste Bin:are for biodegradable items such as food, etc.‘Graue Tonne’or Grey or Black Waste Bin:basically everything that cannot be disposed of any other way belongs in this bin. It is also referred to as ‘Restmüll‘.

Now,you may want to argue that all this sorting can sound a bit much?oh Nah,not at all!especially when I think the stinking smell of those garbages thrown in the streets of Manila and especially when I think of those streets submerged in water and garbages in rainy days(yikes!)

We also sort garbage here, just not to that extent. Hehe, typical “nabubulok” at “di nabubulok” lang. The sink disposal helps too. I’ve always believed that sorting can really help the somewhat untidy state of Manila. Discipline too, but seems like nobody’s in favor of that. Just look at the bay’s shores. It looks and smells disgusting.
October 23rd, 2006 17:56
Hi cheH! Musta na ang weekend mo manay?
Anyway, I don’t think sorting garbage is difficult. It’s just getting used to it. You also have to condition your mind that it’s good for the environment and really for a good cause.
Seryoso, manay, seryoso.
Well, kung alam mo ang tungkol sa Semirara Dumpsite Issue, yong basura ng Metro Manila, during Estrada time, gusto nilang itapon sa Semirara Island, Caluya, Antique. We didn’t like it at all, so we opposed it. I spent sleepness nights researching about the issue for our organization to be able to fight the giants. We documented the whole thing by creating a site. It’s no longer updated though, kasi naayos naman yong issue. To give you an idea, here’s the link, http://semirara.50webs.com .
Have a wonderful week, manay!
October 23rd, 2006 17:58
Hi cheH! I just wrote a long comment… hehehe… mukhang na-identify na spam, paki-check mo na lang. Enjoy your week, manay!
October 24th, 2006 07:27
hi thanks for commin into my life! ahehe i mean commin and commenting sa blog ko po!
very similar dito sa Japan, organized ang garbage kahit bottles dapat hugasan muna bago ibasura or else ibabalik sayo, okay na okay ang cleanliness nila sana ganon din sa pinas.
October 24th, 2006 09:38
October 24th, 2006 11:49
i’d rather take the time to properly sort out and throw garbage than having it laying around and making a mess. maayo na lang kay markie is quite good about it, kabalo pa siya mag-cut-up and fold cardboard boxes para masulod sa container, etc.
one of the things i really hate is the smell of rotting garbage – especially when you’re walking into a restaurant/cafe and the smell from a nearby garbage bin “wafts” in your direction, ay grabe! you won’t expect it happening here in california, but it has happened to us a couple of times already…maka-wala gyud ug appetite. i really don’t like it, so i try to do my part and sort/throw garbage properly.
October 24th, 2006 16:23
Hi cheH! nakabalik ka na pala from vacation
ang bagal kong dumalaw ulit no? Anyway, catching up lang ako sa balita.
Alam mo laging sinasabi noon ng lola ko, you can be poor but you don’t have to live in squalor. Kaya laging walis ng walis yun
I think if we all do our own little part, we can make a difference in the big picture and not turn our earth into one big waste dump.
Recycling and composting is the way to go, and once you get in the habit, it’s not work at all.
October 24th, 2006 18:51
Hong Kong is pretty much following these kind of trend. We call this, the 3 R’s Recycling, Reduce, Re-use. At work, we have all those rubbish bins, pero ewan ko na lang kung yung nagdudura meron ding recycling kasi karamihan the grannies around here doesn’t exactly follow these environmental sanitation rules. Panis.
October 24th, 2006 20:45
Typical German efficiency I would say and it is a real good thing to do. We have the same system in Norway, but maybe not so structured. We separate paper and plastic from the rest of the garbage.
October 25th, 2006 07:45
I wish we had a similar trash sorting system here in the Philippines. We actually do have one, but execution is so poor probably even non-existent. What’s funny though is even if you do segregate, trash collectors usually just pile them up all together in one truck. It’s soo hilarious its painful. I guess the government needs another Payatas tragedy to start fixing the problem. I thought the whole concept of planning is to prevent such catastrophes… it seems reversed here. Hayy… I love the Philippines so much it hurts.
October 25th, 2006 08:13
October 25th, 2006 09:24
Day unang-una, please send my THANK YOU to Natalie! *Lol* seriuosly Che, she’s one good looking baby, salamat ha?!
at home, alone, we have 3 bins, gray (dailies like those that will rot such as vegies, fruits etc) blue bin for papers and green for garden stuff. mabigat din sa bulsa dahil taxed lahat yan, that’s the only downside..but having segregated bins is a fantastic idea…hindi tulad sa Pinas, nakakalungkot na minsan umuwi ako, nakakita ako ng mga bata sa tulay sa Sta Mesa emptying their plastic bags full of garbage, mismo sa tulay, bagsak sa ilog
October 25th, 2006 16:17
Same here as well ate. It is nice to segregate garbages for easy recycling.
October 25th, 2006 20:17
very organized bitaw ang mga garbage dire noh? as in disiplina jud kaayo.
October 26th, 2006 03:10
Ah! The perks of living in a 1st world country! I’m turning green with envy. Eew, that rhymes.
October 26th, 2006 09:03
mas ok na yan – kesa dito tambak na lang tambak, and now the country is paying for it via flash floods and dengue plague.
October 26th, 2006 19:41
im actually all for it…now if only i country can switch to that system….
October 27th, 2006 16:03
good thing na may discipline ang isang country regarding garbages
so,ibig sabihin free and safe
happy weekend,Cheh!
October 28th, 2006 16:05
Hi! Bloghopping brought me to your site. These garbage bins are all too familiar everytime we visit my husband’s family in Germany and that just shows how efficient and organized they are. Over here, there’s one for waste, one for recycling, and one solely for those tons of junk stuff one gets in the mail daily.
October 29th, 2006 21:19

October 29th, 2006 22:36
yikess… pero in fairness, may areas naman sa Pilipinas na strict sila sa basura. and yes, nag se segregate din. kasi you know why… they sell the newspaper/paper per kilo and the bottles as well. honestly, may mga subdivisions na nagfa fine pag di maayos ang tapon ng trash mo. depende nga lang siguro sa lugar.
